Fri, Oct. 30th, 2009, 06:44 pm TV Show Meme
List 10 TV shows you like, in no specific order. Do this before reading the questions below. 1. Merlin 2. Dollhouse 3. Eureka 4. Criminal Minds 5. Supernatural 6. Battlestar Galactica 7. Stargate Atlantis 8. Doctor Who 9. NCIS 10. American Idol 1) - Who's your favourite character in 1? (Merlin) I’d have to say it’s a toss up between Merlin and Arthur – some episodes I like them both equally, then the next I prefer Merlin because Arthur’s being a particularly giant prat, then the next Arthur because Merlin’s being dense… and so on. You get the picture. 2) - What's your favourite ship in 2? (Dollhouse) Huh, I don’t actually have a ship… no, wait, I kinda do. I think it has to be Topher/Echo. If you guys have ever seen Dollhouse you’ll understand why it’s so difficult to actually have a ship in this fandom, but I really like the way Topher starts to connect with Echo towards the end of the first season (please let there be more!). 3) - What ship can't you stand in 8? (Doctor Who) Absolutely cannot stand Ten/Martha; it’s just far too fricking cliché. 4) - What first drew you into 6? (Battlestar Galactica) Well, my brother and father watched it an awful lot, but it was always showing during autumn, which was when I started university, therefore I didn’t have Sky. But one day, whilst I was at home for Christmas, I just sat down with my brother and started watching it – it was 3x16, “Dirty Hands”, wherein there’s all sorts of interesting political stuff going on. It made me realise that there was far more to the show than I had previously thought… thus, I went back and watched it all. 5) - Something that you loved about 3? (Eureka) Oh God, everything! I love the quirkiness of the whole concept, and the ridiculous science, and the silly plots, and every single character. (Actually I hate one thing; they kill off one of my favourite characters in the third season…. Grrrr!) 6) - Something that you hated about 5? (Supernatural) Hmmm, nothing really. I’d just like to see a tiny bit more emotional interaction between the brothers; which I know is never going to happen. Plus, if it actually did, I don’t think I’d enjoy it at all. The boys’ relationship works in the show as it is. (This is all on the basic of the first 2 ½ seasons, as I have yet to see the rest…) 7) - Favourite episode in 7? (Stargate Atlantis) I have lots, but I’ll narrow it down to one: got to be 5x6 “The Shrine”, where Rodney is infected by that parasite that presents itself as a disease that the natives call Second Childhood. I love it right from the very beginning, with the team sitting on top of the stargate. I love the interaction, the pacing, I love Rodney’s sister and her take-charge attitude, I love the format of the whole thing. David Hewlett’s acting is superb, and I adore the whole Keller/Rodney interaction, even though I’m such a McShep person it’s untrue. 8) - Who's your favourite character in 9? (NCIS) Has to be Tony; I absolutely adore him! 9) - What's your favourite ship in 10? (American Idol) Without a doubt, Kradam, closely followed by Cookleta. 10) - What ship can't you stand in 4? (Criminal Minds) Uh, nothing really; it’s such a small fandom, that there really isn’t that many that I hate. 11) - What first drew you into 10? (American Idol) Well, the awesome singing, of course! 12) - Something that you loved about 9? (NCIS) I love the dynamics of the team; the storylines are getting better and better, but what does it for me, is still the way everyone on the team interacts with each other. 13) - Something that you hated about 7? (Stargate Atlantis) The fact that it ended! 14) - Favourite episode in 2? (Dollhouse) Well, I’ve only seen season one, so, I can tell you it’s not 1x13, “Epitaph One”, which is probably most people’s favourite. I, in fact, prefer 1x7, “Echoes”, quite simply because it’s fricking hilarious!

So, anybody out there! I have three Dreamwidth invite codes, if anyone's interested! Just leave a comment, and we'll go from there -- I'm new to this as well, so I'll be learning how to give them out! Lol! Skye
Tue, Aug. 11th, 2009, 03:05 pm Dreamwidth!

Hi out there! So I just thought I'd let people know that I'm on Dreamwidth now as well, just so people don't get a bit worried when my stories start showing up in two places; see, I have a different username on there, as I'm sort of tired of this one. I don't exactly want to change it everywhere though, as that would be such a hassle! Anyway, on Dreamwidth, I'm 'vikyr', which is Czech for 'skylight', and the journal itself is still called 'Solaris'. Thanks guys! Skye

God, where do I start? I mean. I just. I don't. I swear, I have panda eyes right now cause my mascara is just everywhere! I liked it, and I hated it -- God, I loved everybody's performances, I loved Bridget Spears, I loved Lois Abeeba, I loved Rhys, I even loved Gwen. Just, Ianto. And, and Steven. And poor poor Jack. I don't blame him for running away. And I'm absolutely hating whoever wrote this bloody miniseries right now, because it was bad enough when Owen and Tosh died. How obvious is it that British writers are not fond of happy endings? And how much more punishment is Jack supposed to take in his entire life? So, he lost his little brother when he was a child in a war. Then, whilst he was a time agent, his memories were erased. So, he was an unscrupulous con artist until he met the Doctor (version 9). Then he was killed by Daleks, and brought back to life permanently by Rose, brought back wrong, and subsequently abandoned by the dying Doctor. He spent a while (read: decades) on Earth waiting for the Doctor, being killed and controlled by Torchwood. He lost friends, he lost lovers, he lost children. During the first season, he made some decsions his team didn't like. He was killed, a lot, by a demon at the end. But he found Ianto. Then he lost Owen and Tosh at the end of the second, but not before he was buried alive for 100 years by his returning brother who hated him for losing him. Finally, this miniseries: he was blown up by a bomb, buried alive in concrete, lost Ianto, had to kill his own bloody grandson in order to save millions of lives... Seriously, some writers out there seriously hate this poor character. And I hate them back. I really did think that they wouldn't leave Ianto dead like that. Not after Tosh and Owen. But they did. They did. They killed him. They physically and emotionally tortured Jack to the point where he couldn't see any other option but running away. I mean, my God, they couldn't have found a more decisive way to end the show.

So. Check this out, guys: Yep, you guessed it. I have in fact signed up for the Supernatural/J2 Big Bang, having never written any Supernatural or J2 fic before... clearly I fancy a challenge! Well, anyway, hopefully I'll be able to keep people apprised of my progress -- you know, word count and the like. And I imagine I'll have to eventually look around for a beta -- but I don;t want to do that til I know for sure that I will definitely have a story on the way! I don't really have that much to do at this point in time though, so this will most certainly be something to do, plus I really do want to actually write SPN and J2, so hopefully this Big Bang will kickstart some creative juices... Watch this space! (Maybe something will actually happen!)
Tue, Oct. 14th, 2008, 05:03 am BBC Merlin Fic

So, this is my first story in along while, and my first in this very new fandom; BBC's adaptation of the Arthurian legend, called Merlin. It's definitely not the best thing I've seen by the BBC; in fact, the acting is at times horrendous, the script is frankly childish and full of cliches, historically speaking it's a laugh a minute, but.... there's something about it. It's a very AU setting -- Uther is still alive right now, with Arthur as a fully acknowledged first born son and they live in Camelot. Morgana is Uther's ward, and Guinevere is her maid. Lancelot will be showing up next Saturday, and Merlin is Arthur's new manservant, a post he received as a reward for saving the prince's life. Plus, magic is outlawed and punishable by death -- usually burning at the stake of course. So, the premise so far is looking good, and the show is definitely fun to watch, despite the bad script and bad acting, and terribly awfully funny special effects. And the opportunities for slash are unbelievable! The subtext is immense! It's almost at Torchwood levels! So, on to the fic, which I've named in honour of my condition right now, and Merlin's of course! Hope you like... Oh, and can someone tell me how to copy and paste from Word into a cut using Firefox and Vista? Every time I tried, another window would pop up saying something about how my browser wasn't allowing it or something, and it told me use Ctrl+V to paste whatever I wanted to say into that window, which I did. The only problem was, it didn't paste into the cut! Thanks! EDIT: Typos corrected! Thank you drjenny88 ! ( Insomnia )

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES! YES! YES! It finally happened!!!! The sunset ending!!!! I almost passed out several times throughout the bloody episode, I hyperventilated time after time after time!!!! Typical soap -- there were so many bloody near misses... I love John Paul, I love Craig, I love love love love McDean!!!!!!!! God, I so love that storyline -- honestly not too terribly keen on the rest of Hollyoaks, though I think I may watch it to see Niall get what he deserves. Horrible horrible man. He tried to kill John Paul! And he actually did kill Kieron! So, the best John Paul/CRaig episodes are: 16-5-07, the first sober kiss and sex; 27-6-07, the first time Craig tells John Paul he loves him, and completely ignores Sarah's phone call; the series of episodes following their being caught out; 2-9-08, the day Craig comes back; 5-9-08, the day they, ahem, reacquaint themselves with each other; aaaaaaaannnnnd, drumroll please, 19-9-08, the day Craig leaves again..... with John Paul, after kissing him in public, at the train station, in front of a picture of the sunset!!!!!!!!!!! Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!! SUNSET ENDING!!!!!!!!!!! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!! Ahhhh. I'm exceedingly happy now.

Sun, Apr. 6th, 2008, 03:27 pm Woah...

Dude. It snowed. In the south of England. In April.

So, I was really looking forward to this weekend: last episode of Torchwood on Friday; Grand National, first episode of Doctor Who, next episode of Nancy, first episode of BSG 2003 in the US on Saturday; the next Grand Prix on Sunday... Then! Then, Torchwood. I'm writing this with dried tear tracks on my face and a tissue in my lap. Oh God. That was so f**king awful.

So, belated update on 2.5 -- well, my thoughts on it anyway. So, I liked that we know more about Jack -- his little brother, where he grew up, his parents... but I really hated Adam, as, I suppose, we were meant to. I mean, my God, he tortured Ianto! The poor baby! I was really pissed off in this scene, and then, right in the middle of it, somebody bloody well knocked on the door! I left my housemate watching and went to answer it, only to find my other housemate's bastard of a sort-of/ex-boyfriend on the other side. Needless to say, I was most displeased. Plus, more Gwen/Jack UST!!! Where the bloody hell did it come from?!!! "Not like I love you" indeed! The whole cuteness of Owen made up for that a little, and the things Ianto said about Jack as well, although he didn't say he loved him... Hmm, am a little uncertain. And, 2.6 "Reset" made things much better. After all, Martha irritates me a little, but I infinitely prefer her to Gwen. Thankfully, there wasn't much of Gwen in this episode, and Ianto and Martha had that little interlude about Jack's style in bed! Loved! Although I'm not sure about the fact that they only "dabble", despite the fact that Jack implied that he loved Ianto in "To The Last Man". The storyline itself was pretty good as well -- that poor Mayfly! But then the writers ahd to go and ruin it ALL by killing Owen. I cried my eyes out! Why do they always have to kill the doctors?!! And it was really drawn out as well -- poor Tosh, poor Jack. Things had just started looking up! They were going on a date! And the preview for the next episode looks good; looks very sad! But, maybe they'll bring him back? Please? That is all for now. I'm going to go watch it again and cry some more.

Hey guys!
So I got this meme from kelleigh 1) Pick 15 of your favourite movies. 2) Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie. 3) Post them here for everyone to guess. 4) Fill in the film title once it's guessed. 5) If you decide to cheat, I guess you'll have to live with your guilty consciences! Dorks. Who cheats on MEMEs?
Okay, wait, I have far too many movies I want to do... 31 so far! 35 now! Le sigh, must cut them down... 32, 29, 27, 26... can't get rid of any more, so I'll just do 26! Good god!
1) I don't want to play the gender card right now. You want to play a card, let's play the "let's not die" card.
2) Draw sounds? Yes, I can draw sounds... and I can speak them back.
3) I just want you to feel you're doing well. I hate for people to die embarrassed.
4) Your men love you. If I knew nothing else about you, that would be enough.
5) We may not have a woodshed on board, but that boy is gonna get a whuppin' anyway!
6) I mean, everlasting life? I imagine it would be kind of lonely. Well, maybe if you had someone to share it with. Someone you loved. Then it might be different.
7) Is it true that there's a point on a man's head where if you shoot it, it will blow up?
8) What who said. The one with the moustache, the one you're married to.
9) Look! I have one job on this lousy ship, it's *stupid*, but I'm gonna do it! Okay?
10) Welcome the rich man, he's hard for you to miss. His butt keeps getting bigger, so there's plenty there to kiss!
11) You pair of deuces lookin' for work, I suggest you get your scrawny asses in here pronto.
12) Cars pick the driver. It's a mystical bond between man and machine.
13) Boy, it sure would be nice if we had some grenades, don't you think?
14) For a second there, I actually thought you were gonna eat me.
15) But I think I speak for all of us when I say that we want nothing to do with anything that's over that hedge.
16) I think you have strength, of a different kind. And one day your father will see it.
17) Whoa, lady, I only speak two languages, English and bad English.
18) Honey, it took me five years to realize you were flirting!
19) Water is powerful. It can wash away earth, put out fire, and even destroy iron.
20) No matter how long it takes, no matter how far, I will find you.
21) Like the weapons of the previous century, we, too, would become obsolete. Pity, because I lived for it.
22) Out of order? FUCK! Even in the future, nothing works!
23) You're wearing that hat? After all the magic I used to make your dress pretty?
24) You know what the dead do with most of their time? They watch the living. Especially in the shower.
25) Well, you gave one man back his life but did you even glance at the others?
26) There's nothing to see. I used to live here, you know.
Okay, so, have a go guys!
Fri, Feb. 8th, 2008, 02:25 am

So, me and my friends were talking about superheroes today, whilst watching Tobey Maguire attempt to act out Spiderman, and the topic of the new Batman movie came up. One of my friends started t say something negative about Heath Ledger, and I was like "Don't say anything against Heath Ledger!" and he started to politely badmouth his acting skills, to which I replied "We do not speak ill of the dead! You may badmouth him in three months." Yeah, there was a silence amongst my friends too. (Ha! I just forgot to type the 'r' in 'friend'! I love how close those two words are in spelling, and how far apart they are in meaning!) You know, I already cry when I watch Brokeback Mountain (rarely -- the emotion is waaaay too much to handle on a regular basis, like in Titanic), now I'm gonna be in floods of tears when I next watch it. Hell, I may even cry during A Knight's Tale or 10 Things I Hate About You... Poor guy.
Fri, Feb. 8th, 2008, 02:14 am Torchwood 2.4

So, I don't have much to say about this episode, except that I didn't like it. You might think it was nice seeing some emotion and compassion from Jack for that poor creature, but I liked him the way he was. I did not like the addition of Rhys, and I hated the amount of Gwen in this episode -- I can only handle her in small doses! Also, Ianto had some nice lines again, but there wasn't as much emphasis on them, and, after the emotion between Gwen and Jack (THAT SHOULD NOT BLOODY WELL BE THERE, DAMNIT!) I'm left feeling rather disheartened about the whole situation. They nearly kissed how many times?! And Jack had tears in his eyes when Gwen said she'd quit! Tears! Urgh. Poor Ianto. I am pretty much disgusted by the whole episode really. I mean, Jesus, I did not like what happened in Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang between Gwen and Jack, with the whole engagement conversation -- where the hell did that UST come from?! I mean, I know Jack has chemistry with everyone, but please! The UST was not there last series, and now all of a sudden, there's heartfelt stupid emotion going on -- Jack belongs with Ianto, damnit! Huh. Maybe I do have a lot to say... Well, I'm gonna leave everyone with the distinct impression that I. Did. Not. Like. This episode. 4

I have tonsilitis. Again.
Wed, Jan. 30th, 2008, 11:26 pm Torchwood!
Hmmm, Need I say how much I enjoyed Torchwood today? It was fantastic! Well, the kiss was... You know -- THE kiss? Between Jack and Ianto? God I love them together -- and I love Ianto! He's still getting the best lines. (In Jack's office...) Gwen: Who is he? Jack: Thomas Reginald Brocklas (sp?). Ianto: Tommy. Jack: 24 years old. Ianto: Sort of. Gwen: Well, he's either 24 or he's not. Ianto: Depends how you work it out. Gwen: Alright then, when was he born? Jack: 1894.
(They bring Tommy back, he goes crazy, shouting "Leave me alone!") Tosh: Tommy Brocklas (sp?)! It's me -- Toshiko. Tommy: Toshiko? Tosh: Remember? Owen (getting up off the floor where Tommy shoved/hit him to): It's harder every year. Ianto (a teeny bit breathless): Good left hook though.
Gwen: Jack? Have you got any more of those pretty boys in the freezer? Jack: Hands off Missy, Tosh got there first. Tosh (to Owen): Thanks for holding the fort while I'm out. Owen: No worries, have fun. Be careful. Gwen: Where you off? Tosh: Drink, film, maybe a pizza. Jack and Gwen: Awww, nice, very nice. Tosh: I'll be on the mobile if you need me. Gwen: Have a lovely time... (to Jack) He's a frozen soldier from 1918. Jack: Nobody's perfect. (Yeah, I know, no Ianto -- but it's a good scene, so I had to put it in.)
(In Jack's office, Gwen and Ianto looking at photos from 1918) Gwen: He's a bit of allright. Ianto: He's the boss. Gwen: Nothing changes. Ianto: She's alright, too. Harriet Darbisher. Gwen: Wonder what happened to her. Ianto: She died. The year after that was taken. Only 26 years old. Gwen: So young. Ianto: They all were. Nothing changes.
(It's late at night. Jack's sitting quietly in his office, reading the papers. Ianto walks up the stairs into the office.) Jack: This time tomorrow he'll be back in 1918. Ianto: His own time... Would you go back to yours, if you could? Jack: Why? Would you miss me? Ianto: Yep. Jack: I left home a long time ago. Don't really know where I really belong. Maybe that doesn't matter anymore. Ianto: I, uh, (sits on the edge of his desk) don't you get lonely? Jack: Going home wouldn't fix that. Being here I've seen things I never dreamt I'd see, loved people I never would've known if I'd just, stayed where I was. And I wouldn't change that for the world. (And Ianto kisses him.)
I love Torchwood.
So, I sort of quite liked this episode. See, here in the UK, we pretty much have one sole writer for a whole season, if not the whole TV series -- or a team of writers. So, unlike American TV shows, when there's an episode that centres around a particular character, it isn't written by that character's actor, therefore there is still a decen amount of the other characters in it. This thus makes it a lot more enjoyable. For example, every Teal'c episode in SG1 that I watched I found mind-numbingly boring, because, lets face it, he's a boring character. every Sam episode was teeth-clenchingly irritating, because she's an irritating character. On th flip side, however, every Jack or Daniel episode was great! But that's only cause I like/love those particular characters. However, that doesn't change the fact that British shows are more balanced as the writers are often much less biased.
Thus, even though this was a Toshiko episode, it wasn't all bad -- I still don't much like her, she's definitely not one of my favourites, but I still enjoyed the episode, and Ianto still got a few clever lines, and a wonderful scene with Jack! And it looks like next episode is gonna be a Gwen and Rhys one, which could also be interesting. I can't wait for the Ianto one!
If this season is anything like last season, each character will get their chance to shine -- last season Toshiko got that ep with Mary, the alien she had an affair with, Ianto got the Lisa episode, Owen got the weevil one, and Gwen and Jack pretty much got good parts in all the episodes. So, Toshiko's had hers, next is Rhys' and Gwen's... who's next?
I'm sorry, I have to go back and drool over the kiss...
Wed, Jan. 30th, 2008, 05:18 am Urgh
Urgh. (This bears repeating.)
My right gland is swollen to buggery. Ouch. It hurts every time I swallow, and the right side of neck aches from my collarbone to my jaw. I never realised that swollen glands hurt this much!
Bet you I wake up tomorrow with the left gland swollen as well. And either a headache or achy bones.
My body hates me.
So, I've decided that I need to kickstart my writing, and the best way to do that is drabbles -- but I'm not taking requests or anything. I'd feel really guilty if I just couldn't get them done in a decent time. Maybe when I'm more confident about my writing I'll do what everyone else does when they get writer's block and post on comms for inspiration. Therefore, I'm going to write something, be it a drabble, sentence (hopefully not!) or short/long story, for every movie and tv series I've seen, every game I've played/liked and every book I've read. There's soooo many of the latter that I am, in fact, only going to focus on those that actually have an online fandom, no matter how small. As to the movies, if there're more than, say, 150, then I'll only do the more popular ones! That's the theory, anyway!
Hmmm, I just thought, some of the movies/tv series I've seen were originally books. Ha! Got it -- if I've only ever seen the movie, it'll count amongst movies, if I've read the book, it's a book. However, some fandoms (like Eragon), should count as both, as the movie was Fox's interpretation of Christopher Paolini's book, therefore it is a standalone and completely unconnected, so... Soem fandoms will count as both. The fandoms that I will count only as a movie, though they were originally a book, will be in italics. The fandoms I count as both will be in bold. So, there we have it. I'll probably do mostly slash, but I confess that in some fandoms het pairings speak to me more!
